WHAT IS GILDING?

Gilding is an ancient art form involving the application of delicately thin leafs, or sheets, of Gold, Silver, Copper and other precious metal leaf to a surface. Once applied, these materials can embellish any decorative art or architectural surface to create regal look of antiquity as well as express a unique and contemporary style.

WHAT IS THE GILT STUDIO?

Historically Modern! The Gilt Studio was started by Palmer Brown, a local Austin-based artist whose mission is to bring this preserved craft up to speed with today’s fast paced society. Palmer applies ancient Gilding techniques to contemporary style through shapes, color, and materials. Palmer Brown has a great respect and passion for the tradition, value and history of the Gilding process, but also desires to explore its application as an art form in today’s modern world.
